Installing Catalina from App Store to VMWare Fusion




  1. Download the App from the App Store, it's around 8G
  2. Once the Application opens up, Command+Q to close
  3. Open terminal to create the Catalina ISO file
  4. hdiutil create -o /tmp/Catalina -size 8500m -volname Catalina -layout SPUD -fs HFS+J
  5. hdiutil attach /tmp/Catalina.dmg -noverify -mountpoint /Volumes/Catalina 
  6. sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Catalina/ --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Catalina.app --no interaction
  7. Create a new VM in Fusion using the ISO file you created 
  8. Cheers.
